MR House
Oxford, UK. 2021- present
Studio Hallett Ike seek to break up, extend and overhaul this existing Victorian house in Central Oxford. A side and rear return extension on the ground floor adds a contemporary kitchen and dining space overlooking a deep garden. Design interventions to the basement, first floor and second floor have also been carried out to bring a dynamic aesthetic throughout the house, as well as a separate garden studio.
Existing traditional features are retained and celebrated, which in turn helps to create a hierarchy to the separate spaces throughout the house. A material palette of raw and natural, yet warm materials ties the design together to maintain a fluid and cohesive approach.
