Cemetery House
London, UK. 2022- present
An existing lodge on the edge of a Grade II listed cemetery in London has been converted over the years between different typologies, culminating in a disjointed house. Studio Hallett Ike were approached by the homeowners with the desire to turn this unusual dwelling into a family home.
With a strong desire to retain and celebrate existing features, and drawing on the ecclesiastical nature of the building, the resulting design is one that introduces a hierarchy of aesthetics. A new contemporary extension to the kitchen enables lateral living in the home, unusual for this part of London, and the introduction of varying levels across the floor plan further introduces interest. A first floor extension enables the inclusion of a much needed bathroom on the first floor.
A palette of minimal, natural and warm materials ties the design together to maintain a fluid and calm aesthetic approach.
